
When your mum told you to eat up your greens, I’m betting you did so (or didn’t) with at least pulling a face. Veggies, however well done but especially when raw, are great to munch on but not exactly the thing to satisfy your appetite with. At least, that’s what I thought up until now.

If you’ve ever been to Budapest approaching the festive season, you surely know that come December, the city starts glowing – literally, as in with millions of Christmas lights twisted around trees on the most iconic boulevards. It is certainly worthwhile taking a stroll on Vörösmarty tér in particular, for not only will the decorations of the annual Christmas market lift your mood, but your nostrils will catch the wafts of such enticing smells as you can only find here, in the heart of Europe.

“Traditional and healthy” is one of my favorite mottos when I think of something sweet. From day to day, many of us crave something sweet, something to snack on. But how can we eat sweets without feeling guilty, knowing that it’s fattening, right?! My answer is: no.

The strawberry season has finally begun in Hungary. There’s no more need to consume the beautiful, yet flavorless giant specimens imported from Spain or Morocco, since the domestically-grown strawberries are much better. It has fabulous scent; its color is pleasure to the eye, so try to put as much as you can on your table while the season lasts.
